Pelvic Care

This work is designed to assess and restore the pelvic space of the female body. The vast majority of women have encountered shame and trauma around their pelvis, their sexuality, and their identity: birth trauma, sexual trauma, infertility, pregnancy loss, sexual harassment, feelings of unsafety, emotional abuse, injuries, and more.

This longheld shame and trauma leaves the nervous system in a trauma-state, often leads to dissociation from the body and pelvic bowl, and can cause physical pelvic symptoms (e.g. pelvic pain, incontinence, painful sex, and more).

At New Mountains Wellness, I offer pelvic care through two different modalities. You might choose the one that seems best for you, or mix-and-match for a well-rounded treatment plan.

Yoga Therapy

  • Breath

  • Guided visualization

  • Relaxation practices

  • Yoga poses and exercises

  • Self-study

Yoga therapy utilizes all aspects of the yoga tradition, and can help address your pelvic care in a variety of ways.

Yoga poses are used to address muscular and nervous system imbalances in the tone and strength of the pelvic floor and hip muscles. Guided visualizations, breath, and meditation are used to return your presence and awareness to your pelvic bowl.

A unique emphasis in yoga therapy is also the concept of self-study and exploration. A variety of techniques will be used to help you explore and examine the root causes of your pelvic concerns. Discovering your own patterns and inner experience gives you the opportunity to release what you don’t need, and to rebuild patterns that allow you to thrive to your fullest.

Massage

Note: Due to injury, I am not currently accepting massage clients. Hopefully this is a temporary situation, and these offerings will return soon!

  • Breath

  • External massage

  • Relaxation

For those who are seeking a primarily physical and muscular treatment, a therapeutic massage is also an excellent option.

Muscular and range-of-motion assessments are done to determine muscle imbalances and holding patterns, and then massage techniques are applied as needed. Along with addressing the muscles that impact the pelvis (hips, glutes, low back, upper legs, etc.), pelvic floor massage can also be done externally by applying gentle pressure around the bony landmarks of the pelvis. This modality does not require any internal massage techniques.

This work can be paired with guided visualizations and breathing practices to address the mind-body connection. Furthermore, the relaxation and calming effects of massage can help calm the nervous system and decrease chronic tension.

Not sure which to choose?

Yoga Therapy treatment plans often also include massage. If you would like a combination of both modalities, sign up for yoga therapy and we will work both into the session.
